The Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs says that so far, donations in both cash and goods to the quake-hit areas has risen to nearly 880 million yuan, or about 130 million U.S. dollars.
China's only foreign language broadcaster, China Radio International, has also joined nationwide efforts to help the Sichuan quake victims.
By Wednesday, CRI staff together donated more than 110,000 yuan, or 15,000 US dollars, to provide relief to disaster-hit areas.
Both Chinese and foreign employees of CRI opened their purse strings for the good cause.
Fadhili Mpunji is from Tanzania.
"I learned of the disaster in Sichuan from the media. I am sorrowful and my heart is heavy with the news. I think it's my duty to donate for people in the disaster areas. Facing a natural disaster, people should help each other out of trouble. Those who are not affected should always be ready to lend a hand."
CRI's website, www.crienglish.com, is partnering with the China Red Cross Society to call on netizens across the world to offer help in cash and kind.
