The China Youth Daily has carried a letter written by a Chinese high school student, suggesting the government encourage more youth to take part in international exchange programs to promote cultural understanding.

Song Yao, a student from west China's Xi'an city, said during a trip to Europe he was shocked when a local kid asked him if he still wore traditional garments from the Tang Dynasty more than 1,000 years ago.

He said biased reports made by some international media organizations recently on the Tibet issue indicated the international society lacked a comprehensive view of China. To help change this, Song Yao called on the government to increase youth exchange programs between China and other countries.

The letter said young people are creative and amiable. They do not bear the burden of the past or harbor political motives, and they are the future of global cooperation.

Song Yao also suggested the government invite more overseas youth to visit China. He added that the youth of China are clear that the country cannot go in the future without an even better understanding of the rest of the world.
