MARK: Hi Sally, come on in. We can also say, "Please come in." or "Make yourself at home."
SALLY: Hi Mark. How are you doing?
MARK: Great. I'm packing my bags and getting ready for my vacation tomorrow. What do you bring with you when you go on vacation? Are you a heavy or light packer?
SALLY: Where are you going?
MARK: I'm visiting my parents in Vancouver for Christmas. Where do you go for the holidays?
SALLY: Great. I went to Vancouver last year for Independence Day. American Independence Day is on July 4th.
MARK: Really? How was it?
SALLY: I had a great trip. It's a beautiful city. Is your city beautiful? Is it crowded?
MARK: Yeah. I can't wait to go. What about you, do you and Dave have any plans for the holiday?
SALLY: No, we are staying here this year. Dave and I are going to buy a big Christmas tree tomorrow and decorate it. Where is Sally going for the holidays?
MARK: That sounds fun. Well, I'm coming back next week. Maybe we can go out for New Year's Eve. Will Mark be in Vancouver for New Year's Eve?
SALLY: Sure, we are having a big party to celebrate. Do you like big parties or small parties?
MARK: Great. I'll be there.
SALLY: Hey, is Vanessa home? I need to ask her something.
MARK: She just went out to buy some milk. She is coming back in a minute though. How about a cigarette while you wait? Are you a smoker? What bad habits do you have?
SALLY: No, thanks. I don't smoke anymore.
MARK: Really?
SALLY: Yeah, I quit last month. To quit means to end or to stop doing something.
MARK: I'm going to quit soon, too. It's one of my New Year's resolutions. A New Year's resolution is a decision to change some part of your life.
SALLY: What are your other resolutions?
MARK: Well, to lose weight, exercise more often, wake up earlier, call my parents more often, work harder, clean my house . . .
