New words and expressions:
1. musical
Mozart was highly musical when he was a little boy.
He is very musical and people believe that he will make a good musician.
2. market
As we had had a long walk through one of the markets of Old Delhi, we stopped at a square to have a rest.
The market determines the price.
The job market is not satisfying.
3. snake charmer
After a time, we noticed a snake charmer with two large baskets at the other side of the square, so we went to have a look at him.
We were very much surprised when the snake charmer suddenly began to play jazz and modern pop songs.
There are many snake charmers in India
Snake charmers are a spectacle in India.
4. pipe
As soon as he saw us, he picked up a long pipe which was covered with coins and opened one of the baskets.
He places the pipe in the orchestra.
He is now playing the pipe on the stage.
5. tune
When he began to play a tune, we had our first glimpse of the snake.
The tune sounds very familiar.
The tune was written by an unknown young man.
6. glimpse
I caught a glimpse of him as he walked past my window.
He took a glimpse at the painting.
7. snake
Snakes are cold-blooded.
Some snakes are very poisonous.
8. movement
It rose out of the basket and began to follow the movements of the pipe.
After hearing this, he made a movement of impatience.
He sat on a bench without movement.
9. continue
The snake, however, continued to dance slowly.
She continued to live with her parents after her graduation.
I continued putting many questions to him.
10. dance
She is good at dancing.
We danced a Waltz.
11. obviously
It obviously could not tell the difference between Indian music and Jazz.

New words and expressions:
1. pole
Over the South Pole.
In 1929, three years after his first flight over the North Pole, the American explorer, R. E. Byrd, successfully flew over the South Pole for the first time.
Byrd now knew that he would be able to reach the South Pole which was three hundred miles away, for there were no more mountains in sight.
A laboratory was set up at the South Pole.
He has been studying the bear at the North Pole for years.
2. flight
This was a dangerous flight.
He took a straight flight towards his parents’ home.
3. explorer
Ten explorers set out on their expedition.
The expedition was made up of ten explorers.
4. lie
Though, at first, Byrd and his men were able to take a great many photographs of the mountains that lay below, they soon ran into serious trouble.
The village lies in a valley.
Japan lies east to China.
5. serious
She made a serious mistake.
A serious accident happened on the highway yesterday.
6. point
At one point, it seemed certain that their plane would crash.
The enemy was totally destroyed at the ambush point.
We’ll meet at a point fifty yards of the school gate.
7. seem
It seemed to be a very urgent situation.
He seemed to be deep in thought.
8. crash
The plane crashed soon after it took off.
Three planes crashed within the two months, which caused a great panic among passengers.
9. sack
Byrd at once ordered his men to throw out two heavy food sacks.
The robber asked the cashier to put the money into the sack.
We bought two sacks of flour.
10. clear
The plane was then able to rise and it cleared the mountains by 400 feet.
The ship failed to clear the reef.
At his third attempt, the high jumper cleared 2.34 metres.
11. aircraft
The aircraft was able to fly over the endless white plains without difficulty.
The aircraft was made in France.
Due to the frequent aircraft crashes this year, many people have given up traveling by air.
12. endless
The journey seemed endless.
He marveled at the endless universe.
13. plain
The plain extends thousands of miles.
Railways have brought prosperity to the plain.
