Not only is Thai boxing violent but it is also bloody. Yet it involves the arts of dance and music. It is both ugly and beautiful at the same time. That's why it's so exciting to watch. Thai boxing was created by soldiers over five hundred years ago. The fighter use every part of their bodies, especially their feet, knees and elbows to strike their opponents. Their deadly style has earned them respect from other martial artists. Surprisingly, the fights start off with a graceful dance. The dance is in honor of the boxers' teachers. There is even a small band which plays along with the dance and during the fight. So, who says tough guys don't dance?

1. Tough guys do dance

Well, tough means rough (霸气十足的) some kind of guy you might feel uncomfortable if you see him on the street. Maybe you would cross the street to avoid him. He looks tough, he looks rough. Maybe he’ll give you some trouble.

But most people do like to dance or to watch other people dance and almost everybody likes music, Dancing and music are beautiful but fighting or violent are ugly.

Knees-- Well, I think that many of our Chinese listeners have this experience, especially boys, If your father was angry with you and if you were a boy, He probably told you to get down on your knees(下跪),and then he maybe beat you a couple of time if you were very bad. So if you are on your knees, It shows that someone has power over you.

When I was young, I was very mischievous = naughty 顽皮的

He is on his feet again.---This means this man was either sick or had a lot of bad luck and then we say he was down(失意) for a while. But then his luck changed. maybe he started working hard again, and now he’s back on his feet. Or if he was sick ,and now he’s well ,he’s back on his feet.

10. Their deadly style has earned them respect from other martial artists.=Earned respect for them from other martial artists.

Martial arts---Well, martial is the same word. But arts is a plural of martial art. There’re many kinds of martial arts around the world. Thai boxing is one of them. Chinese 武术，There’re many kinds of Chinese martial arts. In the western, we have boxing and wrestling, both are our martial arts. And if you are good at doing your martial art, we call you a martial artist.
