The Bid Commitee of Tokyo 2016 on Monday unveiled 'Uniting Our Worlds' as its bid theme for the summer Olympics, officially kicking off its international communications campaign in Beijing.
Dr Ichiro Kono is CEO and Chairman of Bid Committee of Tokyo 2016.
"We'd like to unite Japan and the world, unite younger generation and senior generation and unite green in the city and unite many aspects in our life."
He said the slogan conveys Tokyo's desire to meet great challenges it faces as a major city, such as urbanization, an ageing population and how to safeguard the environment.
He also said that Tokyo is going to learn from Beijing in its preparation for the Games.
"I'm very much impressed by the preparation of the Beijing Olympics and the people. I learn a lot from Beijing in construction of each venue. I had a good opportunity to visit venues and they are fantastic."
Tokyo is going to compete with candidate cities including Madrid of Spain, Rio de Janeiro of Brazil and Chicago of the United States to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
