China's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao has reiterated that the country's adjustment to its visa policy is aimed to ensure a safe Olympics, not to limit foreign visitors.
"China has taken a series of measures to host a safe Olympics, including the adjustment to the country's visa policy. It won't affect foreign friends traveling, studying or taking business trips to China."
The Foreign Spokesman also urged U.S. lawmakers to stop disrupting Olympics with rights issues.
Liu Jianchao made the remarks responding to a question concerning a resolution introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, which cited the "Olympic traditions of freedom and openness to criticize China on human rights issues.
"The resolution was a groundless accusation, and was not only against the Olympic spirit but also against the wishes of people and athletes all around the world, including the United States."
Liu added that China had made a stern representation to the United States.
