A senior Beijing Olympic official said the city is confident of dealing with any kind of security threat and will present the world a safe and peaceful Olympics.
Liu Shaowu, director of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games security department, said all work related to Olympic security is in full swing. Security personnel and equipment are all in place.
The official added that a command mechanism of security operations would ensure smooth Games.
"The Chinese government and Olympic security department have been attaching great importance to Olympic security. We have set up a command mechanism, which covers the whole country, especially the Olympic host cities and sports venues."
The official also noted that compared to prior Olympics, the Beijing Games highlights public efforts to pursue security.
"We will guarantee the security of Beijing Olympics by ensuring good social order. We have mobilized the society to take part in Olympic security work."
