China's State Council says the country has reversed an unhealthy trend and improved the safety of its drugs in recent decades.
The Information Office of the State Council issued a white paper on the state of drug supervision in China on Friday.
The paper records China's development in drug supply, drug safety supervision, international cooperation and traditional Chinese medicine.
Yan Jingying is a spokeswoman for the State Food and Drug Administration.
"Through unremitting efforts in the past 60 years since 1949, public demand in medical services and drugs can be met in terms of both quality and quantity."
The white paper details China's efforts in different sectors. These include implementation of Good Manufacturing Practice certification for pharmaceutical manufacturers, classifying prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and monitoring the network for controlled medicines.
