Jin Shangyi is chairman of China Artists Association.
"To the world, 2008 is the year of the Olympics; while to the artists, it's also the year of art. The biennale is a great present for opening of the Beijing games."
Bearing the theme "Colors and Olympism," artworks on display have vivified inspirations and strength of the Olympic spirit, peace, harmony and common development.
Some depict people who have made contributions to the Olympics, while some show athletes training hard to win an event. But some tend to interpret the Games in a different way.
Russian artist Dmitry Vasiliev brought an oil painting on spring days in Tunisia.
"The Olympic games is like a happy festival. I think life should be happy, so as my painting. Its color and scenes all express people's happiness."
MS. Theobald is a representative from the United Nations Education, Science, and Culture Organizaiton. She said the exhibition help artists display the culture of their countries.
"This is exactly what art and artists have been teaching us for ages. Art persists in showing their relation where lay people would only notice the discrepancy. Artists help us understand the links that do not match at first sight. This is why this biannual gathering is so important. "
