Among the top issues at the ongoing G8 summit in a lakeside resort of Toyako on the island of Hokkaido in northern Japan, Chinese President Hu Jintao will exchange views with leaders of other countries on global issues such as climate change and food price hikes.
The international community has applauded China's stance in climate change, expressed by President Hu Jintao at the last session, claiming it as a global problem for all nations.
Prior to the G8 summit, Su Wei, director-general of the climate change group at the National Development and Reform Commission, China's top economic planning body, urged joint commitment in fighting against climate change.
"As for the situation this year, developing countries have been the major sufferers of unprecedented influence of climate change, which could not be resolved solely by the main contributor, the developed countries, but by joint effort of the whole world."
He urged that both developed and developing countries should take on different responsibilities on the issue, while following the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Kyoto Protocol.
In addition, food security has topped the agenda for each government in the world in recent years, with price hikes deteriorating the situation.
Senior official with China's Agricultural Ministry, Li Zhengdong said China, a country with 1.3 billion in population, considers food safety one of the basic human rights.
He emphasized that China would spare no effort to stabilize food supply and prices.
"The Chinese government is always committed to ensuring domestic food security while improving gross productivity. Meanwhile, the country earnestly fulfills its international obligation in this regard, making efforts to facilitate food production and agriculture."
He added that Chinese President Hu Jintao will take this opportunity at the G8 summit to provide necessary help to countries that need food aids and advanced technologies.
This is Hu Jintao's fifth time to the G8 summit in five years, in which the annual gathering did not only involve developed countries but also developing countries in discussing world issues.
Chinese Foreign Ministry says the country hopes the summit could contribute to world peace and development, promoting solution to global issues through cooperation.
