Beijing and the Olympic co-host cities have stepped up epidemic monitoring measures. The cities are practising public health emergency drills for any incidents such as, food poisoning.
Foreign media recently reported an outbreak of meningitis in Qingdao - one of the Olympic co-host cities. The Health Ministry says the reports are groundless.
Liang Dongming says Qingdao's 657 public health monitoring stations found NO meningitis cases in July. He says the incidence of the disease declined in the first half of this year and usually falls to its lowest yearly level from July to October.
