The Chinese government's special representative on Darfur, Liu Guijin, says China will persistently work with the international community to settle the issue.
Liu says China has fully honored its commitments to send an engineering unit of 315 personnel to Darfur. He says the unit and some Chinese companies took risks there to make logistical preparations for the deployment of the hybrid peacekeeping force of the United Nations and the African Union. Liu says the Chinese government will offer further humanitarian aid worth 60 million yuan, or almost nine million US dollars to Darfur this year.
Liu Guijin also expressed serious concern over the International Criminal Court's attempted prosecution of the Sudanese President, Omar Hassan al-Bashir. Liu called on parties concerned to take a prudent attitude, and properly settle differences through consultation.
