Poland: Talks with US on missile defense productive
Poland's foreign minister says talks with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice about basing US missile interceptors in Poland have been productive and will continue.
Their meeting follows Warsaw's rebuff of the latest US offer to persuade Poland to accept the missile defense facility.
Last week, Poland's Prime Minister said an offer of US security aid in exchange for allowing long-range US interceptors in Poland had not met Polish security needs.
Poland is seeking US short- and medium-range anti-missile systems to shore up its own defenses. The State Department says the US is still seeking a breakthrough and has other options should negotiations fail.
