Palestinian goes on deadly bulldozer rampage; 4 killed
Four people were killed and more than 45 injured when a Palestinian construction worker driving a bulldozer plowed through downtown Jerusalem on Wednesday. Three Palestinian militant groups claimed responsibility for the attack, but Israeli police believe the assailant acted alone.
The attacker, identified as Hussam Dwayat, began his rampage near Jerusalem's central bus station. He drove a bulldozer along downtown Jerusalem's busiest street, crushing everything in his path. He managed to flatten half a dozen cars, flip over a bus, and send hundreds of panicked residents fleeing for cover before security forces shot him dead.
Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev says the attack is another act of senseless murderous violence. Palestinian authorities agree.
Tayeh Ahed El Rahim, Secretary Gen., Palestinian Presidency, said, "If this attack was done deliberately then it's condemned and rejected by us, we reject such attacks, which harm our national cause."
