In the southern province of Guangdong, heavy rain from Typhoon Fengshen has killed three people and severely injured one. Two others are still missing.
In the hardest hit Nansha and Panyu regions, streets are submerged and more than 23 acres of farmland are saturated. At least 14 landslides have occurred.
One primary school was hit by mud-rock flows, but no causalities were reported.
A local villager leader in Nansha says the schools there have taken swift action to ensure the safety of their students.
"We received an order this morning to have all the schools suspend their classes. Now, all the students have been evacuated from their schools. "
Mountain torrents and landslides have stranded about 10 thousand local residents in some of the province's mountainous regions. More than 200 military personnel have been dispatched to relocate them.
