Chinese President Hu Jintao held his first live web chat with netizens on Friday, telling them divergent voices would be heard in the country.

After inspecting the People's Daily, the largest and most authoritative newspaper in the country, Hu Jintao joined a live chat at people.com.cn, the Internet arm of the daily newspaper.

Hu Jintao greeted the netizens, and then started answering the questions that kept flooding in.

The top leader acknowledged that although he cannot surf the Web every day due to his busy schedule, he still tries to squeeze in some time to go online.

"I log on to view domestic and foreign news, to learn what's buzzing on the Internet, and to ask for people's advice and opinions about the work of our government and the Party."

The president also stressed that the Internet is an important channel between the government and the public.

"Because we are people-oriented and we serve the people, we need to widely hear their opinions and gather their wisdom in our work. The Internet is an important place to learn about people's thoughts."

Hu Jintao also noted that he was very much concerned about certain problems and opinions that have been raised on the Internet, and assured the netizens that no voice would be ignored.
