More than one month after the 8.0-magnitude earthquake hit South China's Sichuan province on May 12th, the disaster victims are confidently and resolutely rebuilding their homes as the government and investors in the country are doing their best to help in the rebuilding.
Our reporter Dandan has the details.
Sichuan has sustained great economic loss following last month's devastating earthquake. Before the disaster, the province was one of the leading economic powers in the nation. Resuming production has become a major focus of current disaster relief and reconstruction work.
Li Chuncheng, the head of the Communist Party of China of Sichuan's capital Chengdu, says the economic loss sustained by the city must not be underestimated.
"We need to resume production as soon as possible. We also need to establish and implement policies and measures for maintaining a prosperous economy. No time can be lost in the effort to recover the city's economic and social development."
Chengdu is a metropolitan area with more than 10 million residents and is an economic center in the province and the southwestern region of China. Resuming production in Chengdu is vital for restarting the regional economy.
Investors from around the nation are taking the reconstruction period as opportunities and brought detailed plans to the city.
"Our investment decisions have not changed. Soon, our 4th round investment, a 100-million U.S. dollar fiber optic glass production line, will be put in Chengdu."
Nearly 95 percent of Chengdu's large enterprises have resumed daily production and the provincial government is helping enterprises from other disaster-hit regions to resume production schedules.
Sichuan province is also advanced in agriculture. As the crops and plants ripen, the summer season becomes vital to production. To reduce loss to the minimum, army forces and volunteers are helping the farmers.
Zhang Qiulin is a local farmer. He is confident about rebuilding his home.
"We can't wait for the government to do everything for us. We need to stand on our own two feet, to help ourselves. We are farmers. As long as there is land, we will work together to overcome every difficulty and have a bright future."
According to local authorities, the wheat and oil seed harvest in Sichuan province is nearly finished.
