In Beijing, the host city of the upcoming Summer Games, Olympic-designated restaurants and hotels have started to use environmentally friendly food packaging.
Restaurants and hotels in other cities soon will join the move to eliminate the use of disposable plastic food wrappers.
Wang Zhenhui is vice chief secretary of the China Hotel Association.
"Many large hotels provide wrappers for their products, such as moon cakes and cooked food. These wrappers used to be made of plastic, which are harmful to the environment. Now we are starting to use environmentally friendly paper wrappers."
Wrappers made of other materials, like resin, have also appeared in restaurants.
A waitress in a hotel explains the advantage of the new product.
"Compared with plastic wrappers, this kind of wrapper is environmentally friendly and reusable."
Some hotels have put up message boards to tell their customers how to distinguish the new food wrappers and their benefits.
