The Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee has revealed a series of slogans and cheers for the Olympic venues.
The cheering routines are made up of four parts that are accompanied by several slogans and gestures including a double thumbs-up and the waving of both arms with clenched fists.
The simple chants and gestures were designed to help spectators cheer for their favorite sportsmen in a smooth and civilized manner.
The Beijing Youth Daily says a unified cheering section could embody the Olympic spirit and show a strong China.
The paper says the cheers are undoubtedly an international language. They are a friendly symbol to draw China and other countries together and they are also a window for presenting a civilized China.
Some people worry that the unified gestures will hinder the free spirit of modern China. But the paper says the oneness of the gestures reveals the strong cohesive spirit of China as well as the Chinese people's passion for the Olympics.
