So far, domestic and foreign earthquake relief donations have surpassed 43 billion yuan, more than 6 billion US dollars. Authorities from related departments say they will make sure that all donations are used to help earthquake victims.
In a regular news conference, Wang Zhenyao, director of disaster relief with the Ministry of Civil Affairs, expressed appreciation for the aid.
"If the support from 1.3 billion compatriots has strengthened the confidence of quake victims to overcome the disaster, then the united help from 6 billion people around the world has led them to realize that love goes beyond borders."
Wang said the ministry has instated strict registration rules for every donation distributed to the victims.
"As soon as overseas donations arrive in China, they will be registered all the way from the beginning to the end. Every step should be transparent and open, with clear records and supervision, so we can ensure that they reach the victims."
Wang said China welcomes donors and other organizations to follow by monitoring their own distribution processes.
So far, more than 12 billion yuan of donations, both in cash and in relief materials, had reached the earthquake-affected areas.Authorities say tents and makeshift shelters are still the most-needed goods.
