Pakistan's security forces secured an area in the country's Khyber region on Sunday, a day after launching an offensive to repel militants threatening Peshawar.
An offensive was launched to stop members of militant group, the Army of Islam, from approaching Peshawar after the militants began making forages into the city.
Khyber is one of seven ethnic Pushtu-majority regions in northwest Pakistan which have never come under the full control of any government.
The offensive is the first major military action the new government has launched against militants since it took power earlier this year.
It follows growing alarm about the consolidation and spread of militant influence in the region.
