Music stars from around the world have performed at a concert in London held to celebrate Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday.
Friday's event commemorated the South African statesman's birthday, which falls on July the 18th. It comes 20 years after a 70th birthday concert that helped press South Africa's apartheid authorities for his freedom. Mandela was released from prison in 1990 after 27 years behind bars.
In 1994, he was elected as South Africa's first black President. He retired from politics in 1999 and has since campaigned to prevent the spread of the AIDS virus.
