All 34 barrier lakes under control

All 34 quake-formed barrier lakes in Sichuan Province are now under control. Officials from the People's Liberation Army made the announcement at a State Council press conference on Wednesday.

Deputy Director of the Combat Department of General Staff Headquarters, Ma Jian, said the PLA are taking care of 20 barrier lakes. Local governments are in charge of the remaining 14.

A strict protection plan has been formed to prevent potential threats and instruct in evacuation procedures. The government pledged no more casualties during safety operations at quake lakes.

PLA officials have also expressed gratitude to foreign troops and disaster relief authorities for their help.
