As people across the country and the world have been donating money and providing material support for victims in China's quake-hit areas, many have also been involved in volunteering work to offer their help.
The Beijing municipal government has said it would recruit volunteers to help with the recovery work for all aspects of social life in the quake-hit regions, including public health, education and agriculture.
The Beijing News carries a commentary saying that it is the duty of every Chinese citizen to offer help for their quake-affected sisters and brothers.
After the quake, many volunteers have hurried to the disaster-hit regions, to help transport food and water, look after injured people, and offer psychological intervention. The paper says these volunteers have demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility for the nation.
Although their courage and passion for the quake-victims are worth praising, the paper points out that organized volunteer work is needed to improve working efficiency.
As the government is now actively taking the lead in the disaster relief work, it has helped integrate scattered human resources to promote working efficiency.
Meanwhile, the paper advises volunteers enhance communication with the government to avoid unnecessary waste of resources.
It says only when the two sides coordinate well can they make better contributions to the quake-hit areas.
