China says the reconstruction of earthquake-ravaged areas will become an important benchmark to evaluate the performance of local officials.
Other sectors such as auditing, quality inspection and media coverage will play a supervising role in the evaluation process.
Ouyang Song is the vice minister of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.
"We will reward and promote those who do a good job in the reconstruction process. We will punish those who only pursue speed of construction but neglect project quality. We will employ various inspection approaches to ensure the healthy progress of the reconstruction work. "
Meanwhile Ouyang Song also says since the outbreak of the deadly earthquake two weeks ago, CPC members have played a vital role in the critical moments of the disaster relief efforts.
The vice minister says a total of about 2.3 million CPC members have engaged themselves in the forefront of the rescue work in the quake-hit areas.
"A large amount of concrete evidence has proved that CPC officials and members at different levels are playing a leading role in disaster relief work. They have accomplished many dangerous missions, solved numerous difficulties for the quake victims and ensured social stability in the quake regions."
Ouyang Song adds CPC members nationwide have also voluntarily handed in about 1.8 billion Yuan or 260 million US dollars of special membership fees, as part of donations to help rebuild the homes of the quake victims.
So far China has received 31 billion Yuan in relief aid from home and abroad after Sichuan's 8 magnitude earthquake that has claimed over 65 thousand lives.
