Canadian health officials said on Friday that there was no connection between the death of a woman on a passenger train and an infectious disease outbreak.
The train with nearly 300 passengers was heading from Vancouver to Toronto when emergency officials received a call on Friday morning. It was then stopped in Northern Ontario village of Foyelet.
Dr. David Williams, Ontario's chief medical officer, said the elderly woman who died did not have an infectious disease and other illnesses reported were not related to it.
However, he stressed the importance of getting ready for worse situations.
"Retrospectively, maybe someone can say it was overdone but if say there was a real problem, then it certainly would have been appropriate and it was appropriate.''
The official praised the way the operation was carried out. He said a lot of people acted in a calm, collected way and went about their duties and responsibilities accordingly.
The train resumed its journey to Toronto Friday night.
