Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao has met leading members of Japanese Lawmakers' League Supporting the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The group is headed by Yohei Kono, speaker of Japan's lower house of parliament.
Hu Jintao said the move shows Japanese people's friendly feelings toward the Chinese people as well as their efforts in upholding the Olympic spirit.
"After the 1964 Toyko Olympics and the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the Olympic Games now came to Asia for the third time to Beijing. The Beijing Olympic Games are not only for Chinese people, but for all Asian peoples and people around the world."
He also said that China will honor commitments to the international community to hold a successful Olympic Games.
Meanwhile, president Hu said that China expects continued support from Japanese people from all walks of life, including the League.
Kono, for his part, expressed the hope that China and Japan will take the Olympics as a favorable opportunity to further expand cultural, sports and personnel exchanges.
"As President Hu Jintao has said, the Beijing Olympics not only belong to China, but also to Asia. We sincerely hope the Beijing Olympics a great success."
The league was set up in 2007 at Kono's suggestion, and now has more than 300 members from both ruling and opposition parties. Among them are four former Japanese Prime Ministers including Toshiki Kaifu, and Junichiro Koizumi.
