In related news, the Olympic torch relay has successfully concluded in southern China's boomtown Shenzhen.
Shenzhen's relay was pushed back for a few hours and did not start until 12:10 pm, due to the historical moment of the Olympic flame reaching the top of Mount Qomolangma in the morning.
Liu Yupu is a senior official with Shenzhen's government.
"The Olympic flame successfully reached the top of Mount Qomolangma this morning, and now it is Shenzhen's turn to ensure yet another success. We all feel very proud here."
Covering a route of nearly 42 kilometers, the relay wrapped up at 6:03 pm as Wang Qihong, a wheelchair torchbearer, lit the cauldron in Shenzhen Sports Gymnasium.
Shenzhen is the earliest of the five Special Economic Zones in China. Since the late 1970s, it has been one of the fastest growing cities in the world. It is also the busiest port in the China after Shanghai.
Jonus, an American who works in Guangzhou, is very impressed with Shenzhen's development over the years.
"How fast as it's growing. The diversity of Chinese people here, so many different groups of people here. And it's really a dynamic and hot city. If something new comes to China, comes to Shenzhen first."
The Olympic torch is set to continue its relay in Huizhou, the third stop in Guangdong province on Friday.
