May 4th is the Chinese Youth Day. It is in memory of the May Fourth Movement of 1919, which marked the beginning of the upsurge of nationalist feeling, with unity of purpose among patriotic Chinese of all classes.
China's Legal Daily carried a leading article saying young people are an important force in the nation's construction of socialist legality.
The article says 89 years ago, some 3 thousand young students in Beijing helped this old nation to rejuvenate with their sense and passion. They were China's forerunners who pointed out that besides democracy and science, this nation also needs to be ruled by law.
The article continues to say that after 89 years, the ideas of democracy and legal system have already rooted in people's minds, and China is striving towards a socialist country ruled by law. However, this ideal can't be achieved without the participation of young people of the time.
Today's youth have witnessed the nation's fast development, and their knowledge and understanding towards law is much better than their ancestors. Therefore, the article called on all Chinese youth to take the sense and passion of their predecessors, to continue taking their social responsibilities, and intensify the legal awareness and idea of the public.
