The Olympic flame has recently reached the Base Camp of Mt. Qomolangma, the world's highest peak, and was passed on to the Mt. Qomolangma torch relay team.
The Beijing Olympic Mt. Qomolangma torch relay headed by Wang Yongfeng are coming fully packed to the Base Camp to take over torches, flame lanterns and torch lighters. Before the hand-off takes place, the security staff at the Base Camp will repackage all the torch-related materials.
The staff have been kept busy with all the materials that go with the torch:
"This is a torch lighter. As such, it is used to light a torch. Here we have 48 torch lighters. In this box are the flame lanterns. They will be transported to 6500 meters above sea-level. The flame lanterns will be wrapped up in sponge in case of damage."
All the torch-related items are repackaged for the convenience of the Mt. Qomolangma torch relay team. The job will be finished within half an hour.
Hu Shenlin is the vice designer-in-chief of the torch lighting system.
"The torch relay will take away 4 flame lanterns and 16 torches. The lighting material has already been sent to the peak. We believe the material will be enough to last the whole relay."
Wang Yongfeng is head of the Mt. Qomolangma torch relay.
"It is more convenient for us to carry all the torch-related items in backpacks than in boxes. It is all about human power, so the packaging should be very careful."
