A sudden large wave has crashed over a breakwater on South Korea's west coast, killing nine people and injuring 14 others.
The wave is believed to have been as high as five meters. It slammed over the breakwater near a beach southwest of Seoul, where dozens of people were fishing and sightseeing. Coast Guard, navy and private fishing boats as well as scuba divers are searching for any possible missing people. A further 200 Coast Guard and fire department personnel and government officials are helping on shore.
Earlier, South Korea's weather agency had forecast strong winds and high waves in the area, but did not issue any advisory. Officials say the wave was caused by regular tidal movements in the Yellow Sea.
