Premier Wen Jiabao has visited the city of Ningbo in the eastern province of Zhejiang. The Premier was there to see local workers with whom he joined in celebrating the May Day holiday.
Premier Wen visited the Youngor Group company on Wednesday. He asked about the working and living conditions of female workers. This woman told the Premier that the factory had paid her a social insurance package, and she doesn't have to work during the May Day holiday. The Premier was pleased and wished her a happy holiday. He also called on the workers to use more value-added innovations for their products.
Premier Wen said, "Quality must be ensured on every production procedure, that will help your products become perfect."
Wen Jiabao then met Wang Zhongwen, a senior engineer and model worker. Wang told the Premier that his pension had more than doubled, to reach 17-hundred yuan per month since he retired. Premier Wen said the pension was still at a low level, but the central government will increase the amount of money continuously over the next three years.
Wen Jiabao also visited the giant sea bridge crossing the Hangzhou Bay. He praised the workers for constructing the world's longest cross-sea bridge.
At the Ningbo Port Group, Wen Jiabao said China's economy is developing well, but the slowing world economy has caused some trouble.
Premier Wen said, "The only way to overcome the difficulties is to unite the workers. If enterprise leaders can mobilize the workers to use their utmost efforts, every difficulty can be overcome."
The Premier also had a lunch with workers and talked to them about the port's development.
