The Taliban's most prominent military commander Mullah Dadullah has been killed in fighting in southern Afghanistan. NATO says he died in the US-led operation supported by Afghan troops. Dadullah was a top lieutenant of Taliban leader Mullah Omar and handled his military operations.
At least two Hamas militants were killed when a firefight broke out between Hamas and Fatah militants in Gaza City. Sources say four Hamas militants and five bystanders were injured. Also in Gaza, Palestinian security forces say Fatah militants have kidnapped a professor at the Islamic University of Gaza who has ties to Hamas.
In Pakistan, protest continued over the suspension of a Supreme Court justice. At least three opposition supporters were killed Sunday in Karachi in demonstrations against Saturday's street violence .Those clashes between pro-government and opposition demonstrators killed at least 36 people and injured 115.
The fourth global "Fight Hunger: Walk the World" day is now underway. As many as one million people are expected to take part. The event is sponsored by the United Nations World Food Programme. The aim is to raise awareness and money in the fight against child hunger. The walk begins at 10 a.m. local time. It's started in Auckland, New Zealand and will end in Western Samoa. According to the World Food Programme, every five seconds, a child somewhere in the world dies of hunger.
On Sunday, thousands of Portuguese Catholics joined the parents of Madeleine Mccann, in praying for her safe return. The British girl went missing ten days ago from her hotel room, near Praia da Luz. Madeleine turned four years old Saturday. But there were no celebrations in Portugal, just renewed pleas for prayers and help in the search. Meanwhile, the reward fund has grown to nearly five million dollars. Among those lent support to the campaign, soccer star David Beckham, author J.K. Rowling, and billionaire businessman Richard Branson.
