Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has met with former Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama, and President of the Japan-China Association for Friendship, Ikuo Hirayama.
Xi Jinping said China and Japan are neighbors and important nations in the Asia-Pacific region. He said improvement of long-term and good-neighborly relations would be in the fundamental interest of both countries and their peoples. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Sino-Japanese peace and friendship treaty. It is also the year of Chinese and Japanese youth exchanges.
Xi Jinping called on the two sides to strengthen cooperation and promote ties in a long-term, stable, and healthy manner. Murayama says the Japanese people support the Beijing Olympics and they hope it will be be a great success.
