The Chinese men's basketball team is expected to have a tough opening in the Beijing Olympic Games as it has been drawn alongside defending world champion Spain and the dominant United States.
In a draw held on Saturday in Beijing, the Chinese were drawn into Group B, which also includes Angola. The two other teams to fill out the six-team group will come from an Olympic qualifying tournament in Greece in July.
Group A is made up of Lithuania, Russia, defending Olympic champion Argentina, Iran and Australia. The sixth team will come for the Athens tournament.
In the women's draw, China was also drawn in Group B with the defending Olympic champion the United States, Mali and New Zealand. Two more teams in the group will be decided in a qualifying tournament in June in Spain.
In Group A, it's Russia, Australia and South Korea. Three more teams will come from the qualifier.
In both the men's and women's tournament, the top four teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals.
