A US human rights expert says some politicians and media organizations are taking advantage of the western audience's lack of knowledge on Tibet, and calls the upcoming Olympics the best time for China to help people enrich such knowledge.
In an interview with CRI, Professor Sirkka Korpela at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University said that the western audience have been misled by many untrue reports about China and some media outlets are even instigating anti-China sentiments.
"I think that's an excellent example of the lack of information and lack of knowledge, the ignorance that in many countries about Tibet. That's a very good example of how ignorant people give very one-sided stories and they have no way to know the truth. So if they come and see Tibet, its development, I think that's a much better idea."
She also disapproved calls by some western politicians to boycott the Beijing Olympic Games, adding that it does not help the west better understand China whatsoever.
"My wish is that more people will have a chance to come to China and I know this wish will be fulfilled in big extent doing the Olympic Games. People can come to see for themselves how China has developed and how much Chinese people enjoy all aspects of life."
