As the Olympic torch has been planned to summit Mount Everest and visit Tibet in the coming months, a living Buddha in Tibet says having the sacred flame in the region is what the local ethnic groups have dreamt for generations, and any attempt to sabotage the relay will taint the image of lamas.
Shingtsa Danzengquta, a living Buddha of a faction of Tibetan Buddhism, told the media the unruly behavior by some lamas in the recent riots in Lhasa is against the principle of mercy and kindness which Buddhism advocates.
"The Beijing Olympics is a grand sports event and a dream coming true for China. Any attempt to destroy this dream will not be accepted by the public."
He says Tibet, after extensive reforms since its peaceful liberation five decades ago, is enjoying social stability and its people now live in peace and health.
