Nowadays, college students are more inclined to make friends via the internet. They may even post their personal information and photos on a website in a bid to draw the attention of a potential girlfriend or boyfriend.
Wenhuibao, a Shanghai based newspaper, says the phenomena reflects the present communication trend in college students born between the 1980's and 1990's. As most of these young people are only children and lack the ability to adjust to a new environment, they are even incapable of arranging their common daily needs. As a result, these students find a way to escape from real life to cyber space in their search for psychological comfort.
The newspaper adds that many of these college students are uncomfortable when communicating face to face and feel lonely, even though they are good at forming relationships in cyber space.
In response, the newspaper points out that university authorities and teachers should pay more attention to the psychological development of their students. Tutors should not only teach them how to study but also how to communicate and cooperate with others.
