With the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay underway, the President of International Olympic Committee Jacuqes Rogges has arrived in Beijing to attend the three-day assembly of the Association of the National Olympic Committees, or ANOC.

"The International Olympic Committee definitely wants and wishes the Olympic flames to be respected because it is a very important sympol that unites people."
The issue of calls to boycott the Games also drew his attention. Mr. Rogge reiterated his objection to the idea of boycotting.

"We applaude Chinese government's efforts to take many measures. It will not only help Beijing games, but will offer permanent solution to environment issue in your country."
When asked about his opinion of BOCOG's preparation work, he expressed his satisfaction with the work that has been done.
"We're happy with the progress of the work. This corresponds exactly to the detailed plan we have submitted to BOCOG in 2001. There are still a couple of issues that has to be finalized. On August 8th, everything will be ready."
