The Olympic torch relay has concluded its journey in Paris, the fifth leg of its global tour.
The relay was once affected by disruptions by Tibetan separatists and their supporters. This aroused indignation from spectators and sports officials.
More than 1,000 overseas Chinese people and Chinese students organized activities to protect the relay of the flame. They gathered at the landmark building Eiffel Tower to express their excitements and good wishes for the torch relay in Paris.
"This is the first time for our country to hold the Olympic Games. We are very proud for our country. A few protesters are going to mix Olympics with politics. As a Chinese, we feel obligated to ensure a successful journey of the torch relay in Paris!"
Tens of thousands of spectators went to the street to watch the torch relay in Paris, which covers 28 kilometers starting and ending at the Stadium Charlety in the south of the city.
Local people also showed their support to the torch relay. Michel Actual says she understands how overseas Chinese feel.
"I am deeply impressed by the overseas Chinese people. I fully support them and wish Beijing to hold a successful Olympics."
After Paris, the torch is heading for San Francisco, the United States, to start its sixth leg of its global journey.
The 130-day torch relay will cover over 130,000 km before the flame returns to Beijing. A total of more than 20,000 torch bearers will be participating in the unprecedented relay, which is held under the theme of "Journey of Harmony."
