A senior official of the Tibet Autonomous Region says the recent riots in Lhasa posed a severe threat to lives and social stability.
Qiangba Puncog, chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Government, said in a recent interview the local government has received massive support from local people in fighting the violent crime instigated by the Dalai clique.
"After the event occurred, we received strong support and broad cooperation from local people. They strongly condemned that handful of lawless people, saying these rioters do not represent the majority."
Qiangba Puncog added the bloody commotion has made more Tibetans grateful for the peaceful environment.
"From their own experiences, the Tibetan people have found stability is a blessing for people of all ethnic groups, while separation can only bring misfortune."
Qiangba Puncog continued to stress that Tibet is at the height of its development. He said the regional government should take this opportunity to accelerate social and economic development while maintaining stability.
According to the chairman, with the help of local people, a total of 414 suspects have been detained in connection with the riots.
