China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission has issued a directive to promote social responsibility among the State-owned companies. This has gained wide public attention.
Workers' Daily carries an article, saying the new directive is a step forward in the economic globalization of China. In recent years, a worldwide campaign on corporate social responsibility has taken shape and many multinational companies have released reports on social responsibility. It says State-owned companies are the backbone of China's economy and should take the lead in implementing corporate social responsibility.
The paper also says that being responsible to employees and the environment should be the focus of Chinese enterprises as they achieve corporate social responsibility. Since employees are the main bearers and deliverers of corporate social responsibility, enterprises should offer long-term, stable jobs for its employees, and fully respect their rights by providing safe and healthy workplaces.
The paper stresses that Chinese enterprises should work harder to protect rights of its employees. For instance, an enterprise should establish a mechanism to regularly increase employees' salaries and to pay social security insurance. Enterprises should also eliminate discrimination, boost in-service training, and create more equal opportunities for career development.
