All of the State Council's objectives have now been met as a result of a nationwide campaign for product quality control and food safety in China.

That's according to Pu Changcheng, deputy minister of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The State Council waged a four-month-long campaign for the control of product quality and food safety. Governments at various levels, all relevant parties and people from all walks of life actively took part in the campaign. They attached great importance to the issue. Many effective measures have been taken to solve the problems on product quality and food safety. I should say that a remarkable achievement has been made.

The campaign, which started in August, was targeted at agricultural products, food processing industries and medicine.

Pu Changcheng said the product quality level as a whole has improved during the campaign, and an intergovernmental cooperative mechanism for quality and safety has been set up.

Product quality and food safety is an international issue. Communication and cooperation should be promoted among all the countries, organizations and enterprises.

The official added that China has signed several agreements with other countries, regions and international organizations to strengthen quality control cooperation.
