Gas stations in Beijing have started to sell petrol that meets the cleanest national standard from the start of the new year to reduce emissions.



Officials say that national level-four petrol can reduce car emissions up to 50 percent before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.



The new environment-friendly petrol is popular with the local drivers in Beijing.



The national level-four petrol, I believe, is good for environmental protection in the country, for the vehicles and our health as well.



Some also say that the price of the new standard petrol has remained unchanged, another reason for its popularity.

The country's leading petrol producers Sinopec and and China National Petroleum Corporation say they have begun to introduce the cleaner fuel from the capital in the country.



National level four petrol, one of Beijing's major scientific inventions, is the first clean petrol that will help cars to meet level-four national emissions standards. It is the equivalent of the European Union's IV level standard.



The State Environment Protection Administration published the level-three national standard for emissions in July. It also banned the manufacturing and driving of cars at level-two.
