A new advertisement has sparked a heated discussion among Beijing subway passengers lately. It goes like this: Too Crowded in here? Go and Buy A Car! This ad has been placed on the doors of nearly every train, quite noticeable to millions of passengers every day.
The Beijing Youth Daily has carried an article saying that most of the subway passengers do not appreciate this ad. For one, private cars are clearly a major source of traffic congestion and pollution. For another, the ad is quite insulting to both subway passengers and the subway system.
The paper says it is okay for car sellers to promote their products by advertising, but placing the slogan in subway and comparing car's advantages with subway's disadvantages is unfair.
The article goes on to say that although subway is crowded, it costs very little and is very safe. Its convenience and environmental friendliness make it popular among citizens. What's more, not everyone or every family can afford a car. Obviously it should be one's own choice whether to take subway or drive a car.
In conclusion, the paper says advertisements should be fair and reasonable. The controversial ad in the subway has hurt the feelings of many passengers. It surely does no good to the selling of cars, and it just may backfire.
