China's main north-south national highway reopened on Monday after weeks of snow and ice storms, easing transportation bottlenecks caused by winter storms.
But Zheng Guoguang, director of the China Meteorological Administration, warned that situation is still very fragile.
The low temperature will make the melting of the snow and ice quite slow and a little bit more rain and snow fall will add to the current disaster. So these areas are now still very fragile.
The Meteorogical Administration predicted rain and sleet in some areas throughout Tuesday but said the weather would clear in time for the Lunar New Year on Thursday.
Meanwhile, China's Ministry of Civil Affairs has said that relief efforts are under way for further reduction of damage.
Related departments have dispatched special funds and necessities to those affected, providing them with food, clothes and tents to combat with low temperatures in winter.
Guo Shengkun, an official in charge of disaster relief in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, detailed their work.
''We're sparing no effort to help bring basic conditions of normal life back to people. This includes food, clothes and medical care. Particularly for areas of severe disaster, we must take good care of people with special needs, like the elderly, the disabled and patients.''
So far the donation for the regions is over 480 million yuan, or more than 60 million US dollars. The figure has kept rising as Chinese from both home and abroad are contributing to the disaster-relief in these areas.
