UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called on Kenya's feuding political leaders to urgently stop violence and solve the current crisis peacefully.
The UN chief is in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, meeting with his predecessor Kofi Annan and Kenya's opposition party leader Raila Odinga. He addressed a news conference after the meeting.
I appeal to all political leaders to look beyond the individual and parties' interests. Look at the common interest for the bright future of Kenya. I have come to appeal to all Kenyans to end the violence, which has wounded and crippled this blessed country. I have to call on all of you to put Kenya back on its right path. That is one Kenya --- united and peace, progress and freedom for all its people.
The UN chief arrived in Nairobi early Friday from Addis Ababa where he was attending the 10th African Union summit.
