Famed UK science fiction writer, Arthur C. Clarke, was buried on Saturday in his adopted home of Sri Lanka, where he died early on Wednesday at the age of 90.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa attended the funeral and paid his final respects to the late author. Clarke's brother Fred and other family members were also among the mourners.

The visionary author won worldwide acclaim with more than 100 books on space, science and the future in addition to numerous inventions.

Fred Clarke said it is quite miraculous for his brother to see his inventions realized in his lifetime.

"When he invented the communication satellite, he never expected to see it in his lifetime, in 1945."

From 1950, Clarke began a prolific output of both fiction and non-fiction, sometimes publishing three books in a year.

A statement from Clarke's office said he had recently reviewed the final manuscript of his latest novel. "The Last Theorem," co-written with Frederik Pohl, which will be published later this year.

Some of Clarke's best-known books are "Childhood's End", "The City and The Stars", "The Nine Billion Names of God", "Rendezvous with Rama", "Imperial Earth" and "The Songs of Distant Earth".
