Nyim Tsering is the headmaster of Lhasa's Haicheng Primary School. When the riot broke out on March 14th, Nyim Tserting says the students were having classes as usual. But when they were heading back to school after lunch; the mob came and attacked them.
"The mob came to attack our school buildings as if they were crazy. They were threatening our lives and the school's property. We mobilized all the teachers to calm and protect the students. We also informed the parents of the students so that they could take their kids home safely. The total loss of the school property has reached 1.4 million Yuan. But more importantly, it's a hard blow to the minds of the kids."
Dawa Yudron, a second year student from the Haicheng School, says she still feels quite scared when recalling what happened that day.
"I saw some people beating the police. And some were attacking the shops. I was quite afraid. My grandma told me not to go to school, so I stayed at home for three days."
Feng Bixia is another victim.
"My neighbor told me to lock the door tight when I was cooking. And when I was about to do that, a maid brought a kid to my shop to avoid the mob. The kid was very scared and was begging my husband to escort him home. My husband agreed. But when we opened the door, bricks were flying at us. My husband and kids were beaten to the ground. And we lost each other when fleeing for our lives."
It's been reported that the mob had killed 13 innocent civilians in the riot. Over 210 houses and shops as well as 56 vehicles have been badly damaged.
Peng Xiaobo, who runs four clothing shops, said all of his shops were burned to the ground. His two close relatives were burned to death and his wife has been seriously injured in the riot.
"My sister just had her 18th birthday. She did not dare to jump out of the window. She fell off the stairs into the flames."
The injured civilians in the riot are now receiving medial care in Lhasa's major hospitals. Things are getting back to normal in Lhasa as students are going back to schools and businesses resumed in Lhasa.
